RFID-based Production Line Management at a Factory in Vietnam

A factory in Vietnam has deployed Chainway UR4 fixed RFID readers and SR160 UHF RFID scanners in the production line and finished goods warehouse to track and record relevant information throughout the production process of wire products. This has enabled the factory to achieve production control and quality traceability management of the entire production line, significantly improving production efficiency and product quality.

The challenge

A factory in Vietnam produces wire products. Because product form and structure change continuously during production, traditional fixed QR code identification cannot be used. To ensure production efficiency and product quality, the factory introduced automated production line management based on Chainway UR4 and SR160 RFID readers.

The main problems:

  • Wire products are transformed continuously during production, so traditional QR code labelling does not work.
  • The production line environment is harsh (high temperatures, strong magnetic fields), requiring high-performance readers.
  • Processes are complex, with different workflows and cycle times, which makes implementation difficult. Some processes also interfere with each other, reducing data capture accuracy.

The solution

Chainway and its partners developed an RFID-based automated production traceability system for wire products, based on the customer's needs and the problems above.

  • Production: every product on the line receives an RFID tag linked to its product data. Chainway UR4 fixed RFID readers installed at each process position automatically capture tag data in real time and send it to the RFID control system, which collects, analyses and stores the data by process and passes the results to the production control system.
  • Warehousing: workers print and apply barcode labels to finished products, then use the Chainway SR160 to read the barcode or RFID data and link the product to the warehouse records.

Configuration: Chainway UR4 fixed RFID reader and SR160 RFID reader, UHF RFID, 2D barcode.

The result

  • Automated traceability: less manual intervention, transparent and timely visibility of production for the customer, and better production plans based on real-time data.
  • Accurate data capture in a harsh environment: thanks to the excellent interference resistance of the UR4 and SR160, the system captures data accurately even in tough line conditions.
  • Rapid response: production management sees changes on the shop floor immediately and can decide and act quickly, minimising production errors.
  • Better collaboration: production, quality, process engineering and logistics departments work from shared data, and the entire manufacturing process can be optimised continuously.
